Fort Mott State Park
Embark on a day trip that consists of five unique attractions spanning from New Jersey to Delaware via ferry boat to a National Park Cemetary, a Lighthouse, two historic Forts and a wildlife preserve. Check out the links below for other reviews. We recommend departing from the Jersey side because you're gonna need your car to see some of the other sites. However, coming from Delaware, you can definitely visit the two forts and the national cemetery, and possibly visit the other two if you don't mind walking. Be sure to incorporate lunch time and shopping into your itinerary while in Delaware City, a beautiful quaint river town that's located at the ferry stop in Delaware.
Plan on spending 2-3 hours at Fort Mott State Park, where you can walk around and explore the history including the old bunkers (a big hit for the kids and a unique part of history to see for all), cannons and watch towers, visit their museum that has an assortment of military themed artifacts, stop by the national cemetery, enjoy a picnic lunch (especially if your visiting via ferry boat from Delaware), take the kids to the playground and enjoy the many acres of open recreation space along the Delaware River. Be sure to say hello to their friendly and knowledgeable staff who will be more than willing to share a bit of history with you during your visit.
