Museum of the American Revolution

One of my favorite places to travel is anywhere steeped in American history, and being so close to Philadelphia, I’ve always been fascinated by the Revolutionary era and the birth of our country. Over the course of three years, I visited numerous battlefields, Independence Hall, and several museums dedicated to the Revolution. Philadelphia is a fantastic starting point to understand how our nation declared independence from British rule with the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which eventually led to the American Revolution, beginning in Concord, Massachusetts. One museum I visited is themed around the journey from Concord to Yorktown, covering all the major battles in between. They do an outstanding job illustrating this history through hands-on activities, interactive maps, high-tech exhibits, and even a 4D battle room. What truly sets the experience apart is the incredibly knowledgeable staff—some of the best I’ve encountered in any historical site. I was especially impressed by their mock ship exhibit, where a historian managed to hold the attention of both a fifth grader and a third grader for a solid 15 minutes—no small feat! If you’re looking to dive into the American Revolution and the founding of our nation, this museum is the perfect place to begin. From there, you can expand your journey to Independence Hall, Valley Forge, Trenton, or even take a trip to Concord or Yorktown. It’s truly one of the best experiences for anyone passionate about American history.
