Roger Williams Park Zoo

Our favorite family attraction in Rhode Island is the Roger Williams Park Zoo, and over the past few years, it’s become even more exciting with a host of new additions. One standout is the opening of Our Big Backyard and Tree House—a hands-on play area for kids featuring an interactive Rube Goldberg-style tree house that sparks creativity and exploration. Also new is the Australian Walkabout, where visitors can stroll alongside wallabies and kangaroos, offering a truly immersive experience. The expanded farmyard is another hit with families, allowing kids to brush goats, milk cows, and gather eggs from chickens—a playful way to learn about farm life. The zoo is thoughtfully divided into continental sections such as Africa, North America, Central America, Australia, and more, showcasing a wide variety of animal species. One of the most fascinating features at each exhibit is the informative signage, which shares fun facts about the animals and highlights whether they’re endangered or at risk.
