Air Mobility Command Museum
This museum features a growing collection of beautifully preserved military aircraft and exhibits, offering visitors a rare opportunity to explore aviation history up close. Among the highlights are several large, historic aircraft—many of which are open for walk-through tours. A massive, propeller-driven C-133 Cargomaster sits across from a four-engine, jet-powered C-141 Starlifter, which is wheelchair accessible. Nearby, you’ll find the last surviving C-54M Skymaster, specially modified to haul coal during the Berlin Airlift, alongside the first C-9 Nightingale, a jet used for medical evacuations. Indoor exhibits are housed in a restored World War II hangar that once served as a secret Army Air Force Rocket Test Center. One standout is the immaculately restored B-17G Flying Fortress, complete with nose art and bristling with machine guns. Visitors can get up close and even peek inside the bomb bay. The centerpiece of the collection is a combat veteran C-47, with an extraordinary service history during and after World War II. Guided tours are available, offering narrated insights into the aircraft and their stories, or guests can explore the museum at their own pace. A large-screen flight simulator is available free of charge for anyone over 10 years old, allowing visitors to choose a plane from the collection and “fly” a mission from Dover Air Force Base. (Note: simulator hours may vary, as it’s operated by qualified volunteer flight instructors.)
