Bowie Railroad Station & Huntington Museum

Bowie Railroad Station & Huntington Museum

Located at 8614 Chestnut Avenue in historic Old Bowie, the Railroad Station Museum was relocated from its original site across the railroad tracks and restored in the 1990s. The original station was built in 1872 by the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Company at the junction of rail lines leading into Washington, D.C. and Southern Maryland. These lines were later integrated into the Pennsylvania Railroad Company system. The Town of Bowie, originally known as Huntington City, developed around this vital transportation hub. The current museum buildings were constructed in the early 1900s, but closed in 1989 before being revived as a museum. Today, the Railroad Museum is supported by the City of Bowie and the Huntington Heritage Society. It is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and welcomes groups of 10 or more by appointment. The station is accessible for visitors with disabilities and
