Beaufort History Museum

Beaufort History Museum

Originally built as an Arsenal, it is now home to the Beaufort Historical Society, where the top floor is a museum. For a small entrance fee you will be granted access to an amazing array of history, artifacts and artwork. Your knowledgable docent will guide you through the museum where you are free to walk around and take in all the colorful and well crafted displays depicting the history of Beaufort from the early settlement to more modern times. You might be surprised to learn how during the Civil War era the town turned Union and was saved by General Sherman’s march among other conflicts. We recommend coming out and taking in the rich history, learning about the various Hollywood pictures that were filmed in the area and meeting their amazing volunteers. Also be sure to stop in the visitors center just below on the first story. There is no fee to access the visitors center.
