Vaccaro’s was established in 1956 by Gioacchino Vaccaro, affectionately known as Mr. Jimmy. It didn’t take long for the bakery to become a Baltimore sensation, thanks to its specialty Italian delicacies like the to-die-for rum cake and out-of-this-world cannoli. Today, Nick Vaccaro proudly continues the family tradition, using the same old-world recipes brought over from Italy. Vaccaro’s has expanded to include a modern pasticceria (pastry shop) offering both carry-out and café-style dining at a state-of-the-art production facility and warehouse, along with five additional locations throughout Baltimore and the surrounding areas. If you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, make room for dessert at Vaccaro’s. Here’s a challenge: try the “Original Colossal”—a homemade Belgian waffle topped with vanilla gelato, fresh strawberries, wet nuts, and a generous swirl of whipped cream. It’s absolutely delicious, but good luck finishing it with fewer than four people!
