Hancock Shaker Village

Nestled in the heart of the Berkshires, Hancock Shaker Village offers a captivating glimpse into the life of a once-thriving Shaker community. Known for their commitment to simplicity, poverty, chastity, and communal living, the Shakers sustained themselves through farming, craftsmanship, and innovation. Today, the village continues to operate as a working farm, featuring animals, vegetable gardens, and functioning workshops. One of its most remarkable features is the water-powered mill, which uses an underground pipe system fed by a mountain stream—an ingenious alternative to the traditional water wheel. Families will find plenty to enjoy, with kid-friendly activities such as the Discovery Barn, scavenger hunts, and nature trails that make learning both fun and immersive.
