Mystic Seaport
Mystic Seaport
Mystic Seaport exceeded our expectations. It’s a living, late 19th-century shipbuilding community, complete with authentic shops filled with period pieces and tools. Visitors can explore these spaces and watch skilled craftsmen demonstrate traditional techniques. The Seaport also features a wide range of captivating maritime exhibits—from the history of the Mystic River to historic ships and the stories of immigrants who journeyed across the ocean in search of a new life. There are plenty of engaging activities for kids as well. Be sure to stop by Neptune’s Music Workshop, where you can build a real banjo, or visit the Planetarium for an immersive show. One of the most fascinating areas is the Shipbuilding Yard and Mill, where century-old ships are meticulously restored. Starting with raw logs, the team crafts every board and plank needed for these massive wooden vessels. Currently, they’re working on the Charles W. Morgan whaling ship, and visitors have the unique opportunity to climb aboard and learn about its history and restoration process. If you're visiting Mystic, we highly recommend dedicating a full day to exploring the Seaport. There’s so much to see and do, we couldn’t possibly cover it all in this review
