Wilmington & Western Railroad

We were thrilled to discover a scenic train ride in northern Delaware. As fans of train excursions through the mountains of New England, we found the Wilmington & Western Railroad to be a fantastic local gem. Operating from March through December, the railroad offers visitors a chance to experience the beautiful rolling hills and rivers of New Castle County, with each season bringing its own charm and changing scenery. One of their signature trips, the Hockessin Flyer, is a 2½-hour journey from Greenbank Station to the quaint village of Hockessin. Another popular excursion, the Mt. Cuba Meteor, invites guests to enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch along the way. Throughout the year, they host 19 special themed rides—including the Santa Claus Express, which is especially fun and magical for children. Whether you're young or simply young at heart, the Wilmington & Western Railroad offers a delightful experience and a memorable way to spend a day riding the rails.
