The Havre de Grace Maritime Museum, located where the Susquehanna River meets the Chesapeake Bay, tells the story of the region’s rich maritime heritage. With its abundant flora and fauna and highly navigable waters, this unique environmental setting has served as an ideal backdrop for generations of inhabitants—from the earliest Native Americans over 10,000 years ago, to the first European colonists in the 1600s, and continuing through to today’s vibrant 21st-century community. The museum’s Maritime Education Center and Boatbuilding School, located on the first floor, serves as its largest exhibit. Since its founding in 1989, the school has built or restored over 155 boats and canoes, preserving traditional craftsmanship and connecting visitors to the region’s nautical legacy.
