Patterson Park and Museum
Tucked away between Route 4 and the Patuxent River in Calvert County, Jefferson Patterson Park is home to one of the historic battle sites of the War of 1812. Admission is free, though donations are welcome to support its programs. The park features exceptional interactive exhibits for children, along with a compelling War of 1812 display, a hands-on farming exhibit showcasing Maryland’s agricultural heritage, and a variety of archaeological exhibits that bring the region’s history to life. Visitors can also explore a reconstructed Indian Village, complete with an audio tour accessible by phone, offering a deeper understanding of Native American life in the area. One of the most memorable parts of our visit was a peaceful stroll along the Patuxent River, enjoying the refreshing breeze and scenic views. Jefferson Patterson Park hosts a range of family-friendly themed events throughout the year, including a War of 1812 reenactment in September and Family Farm Days in June. It’s a fun and educational destination that offers something for everyone and is truly a hidden gem in Calvert County.
