Hull Lifesaving Station & Museum
The Hull Lifesaving Museum is located in the beautifully restored Point Allerton U.S. Lifesaving Station, originally built in 1889 by the United States Lifesaving Service. This historic site was once home to Joshua James and his crew—among the most celebrated lifesavers in American history—who courageously protected the treacherous entrance to Boston Harbor. Museum exhibits delve into the history of lifesaving, the Massachusetts Humane Society, the U.S. Lifesaving Service, the Boston Harbor Islands, lighthouses, and a wide array of lifesaving apparatus and equipment. Throughout the year, the museum also features special traveling exhibits that add fresh perspectives to its core collection. Visitors are invited to climb to the cupola for a stunning view of Boston Light and Minot’s Ledge Light. Children especially enjoy the dress-up uniforms and the climb-on play ship in the Navigation Loft, making the museum a rewarding experience for all ages—both educational and fun.
