Miah Maul Shoal Light

Miah Maul Shoal Light

Located on a shoal at the northern end of Delaware Bay, just off the coast of Cumberland County, NJ, this lighthouse first illuminated the waters in 1913 using a fourth-order Fresnel lens. The structure is a striking 45-foot red conical tower, complete with a red watch room, keeper’s quarters, and a black lantern, all built atop a sturdy concrete and cast iron caisson. The three-story lighthouse was automated in 1974 and currently operates with a 500mm optic. The original Fresnel lens is slated for display at the nearby East Point Lighthouse. Owned by the U.S. Coast Guard, the light remains an active aid to navigation, continuing its legacy of guiding mariners safely through the bay.
