Georgetown Historical Society

Perhaps the most precious jewel in Georgetown is the Nutter D. Marvel Museum. This remarkable museum features a collection of historic buildings and beautifully preserved horse-drawn carriages. However, its most priceless treasure is the extensive archive of photographs, newspaper clippings, books, and memorabilia that document the rich history of Georgetown and its people. Since 1992, the Georgetown Historical Society has worked diligently to catalog and preserve this collection. In partnership with the town, they have also secured grants to restore and maintain the buildings that house these artifacts. The museum complex includes two barrel-roof barns, a 100-year-old church, a one-room schoolhouse, a blacksmith shop, two historic railroad freight buildings, a dining room with kitchen, various storage buildings, and an office. The Nutter D. Marvel Museum stands as a testament to Georgetown’s heritage and the dedication of those committed to preserving it for future generations.
