Strasburg Railroad
Strasburg Railroad
The Strasburg Rail Road is one of our favorite destinations in Lancaster County, especially when Thomas the Tank Engine comes to town—our little ones absolutely love it. The experience includes a variety of train cars to ride in, from First Class and Coach to a Dining Car, offering something for every style and budget. Looking to make it an affordable day out? Pack a picnic lunch and hop off at the Picnic Grove, where you’ll find shaded tables and a playground for the kids. This stop also connects to Cherry Crest Adventure Farm, but if that’s on your itinerary, be sure to take an earlier train—you can easily spend several hours there, especially with the corn maze, which alone takes two hours or more. At Strasburg Rail Road, you’ll enjoy a hands-on learning experience about steam railroading, agriculture, Amish culture, and Pennsylvania Dutch heritage. The ticket prices are very reasonable, making it a great outing for families of all ages. Additional kid-friendly activities are available for a small fee, including rides on the Cagney Steam Train (a miniature version of the real thing), the hand-powered Pump Car, and the Cranky Cars, which kids can operate themselves. During your visit, be sure to browse the Thomas™ Toy Store, and don’t miss the railroad bookstore and rail fan shop, filled with apparel, books, and unique merchandise. It’s a perfect blend of education, nostalgia, and family fun.
