Maritime Museum of San Diego

The Maritime Museum of San Diego is a true floating world of history. With nine historic ships anchored in the harbor, every step feels like entering another chapter of maritime life. The Berkeley, an elegant old ferry with beautiful stained glass windows, holds the heart of the museum’s artifacts and sets the tone for the entire experience. You can walk the decks of legendary vessels like the Star of India, explore real diesel submarines, ride the PCF 816 Vietnam era Swift Boat. Each ship is beautifully preserved, and the staff—some of the most knowledgeable and friendly you’ll meet—bring the stories to life. One experience you absolutely must do is the Pilot Boat Tour. The Friendly Staff invites you aboard for a 45 minute trip through San Diego Bay, where you’ll learn about the Naval Base, Coronado Island, the shipyard, and the dozen or so Navy ships being built or repaired. You get incredible views of the Coronado Bridge, waterfront skyscrapers, Port of San Diego operations, Seaport Village, and even glide right past the USS Midway Carrier .. Highly recommended for all families.
