Squam Lakes Natural Science Center

More than a typical zoo - it’s the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center. Bring your hiking shoes and prepare for a terrific walk through their beautiful nature paths. When you’re there you’ll feel like you’re deep in the woods, but when you come across their many exhibits along the way, you’re reminded that you’re not out in untamed territory. Their barricades for the animals blend into their nature theme, so you do not get the sense that you are at an artificial setting. A great thing about Squam Lakes is that my daughter and I really enjoyed the many hands-on exhibits and learning tools. I have to say that the biggest hit was the Spider house, in which she could climb a spider’s web and explore other tunnels and crawl through areas. In addition, their knowledgeable staff conduct lectures on the different creatures that dwell in the area that grab the attention of the smallest child to the interested adult. At Squam Lakes there is a wide assortment of nature trails to hike and they also offer lake cruises. When you are in the Grafton County area, be sure to spend the whole day enjoying the science center and being one with nature and the animals
