During the NJ Lighthouse challenge of 2004 when my husband was promoting our book at the Twin Lights he asked the Laverty family, the keepers of the Twins Lights, where would be a nice place to eat and their immediate reply was Bahrs. They reported that they did an excellent job on their son's wedding reception. After eating there ourselves, we can confidently say that the place for great seafood in Monmouth County is Bahrs. Any of their soups are great and once in awhile Jay will make his famous seafood chili that is out of the world. My husband has been suggesting that he put it on the menu permanently.. In addition, make sure that you take home their “Baykeeper Oyster Stew;” proceeds from which go to the Oyster Restoration Program of the NY/NJ Baykeeper, a nonprofit environmental group that has been protecting the Hudson-Raritan Estuary since 1990.
