In Cabot, Vermont is the famous cheddar cheese factory that is an inexpensive and fun little side trip in the very rural area of Vermont. Their tour was one of my favorites. It begins with a short video, then a very friendly guide takes you into the factory where you see the process of making cheese, as well as yogurt, sour cream and cottage cheese. Before or after your tour you can sample about a dozen types of cheese flavors. It was during the tour when we learned about the process of separating the curds and whey that we found out they package their whey, that they would otherwise discard, as protein powder and we have been using it ever since in smoothies as a natural supplement. Definitely come and meet the friendly staff at Cabot's.
