Flume -Franconia State Park (Summer)

Summer in Franconia Notch State Park
When visiting The White Mountains in the County of Grafton, NH lies Franconia Notch State Park and the final resting place of the Old Man of the Mountain. A highlight of the park is Cannon Mountain, which offers superb winter skiing as well as fun summer activities. My family and I decided to take the scenic aerial tramway up to the summit. You can bring a picnic lunch or eat at either their top or bottom cafeterias, with food that tastes much better than a typical cafeteria. We recommend trying the chili or the New England clam chowder, both served with cornbread. Once at the summit, choose from two trails (one of which is easier then the other) that will lead you to the Overlook tower. When at the base of the mountain you can visit the New England Ski Museum, go swimming, canoeing and picnicking at in Echo Lake, and stay at the park's RV Campground that has full hookups available. Please see the back for the park's other area nature activities. Also, please look for our skiing review coming this winter. Franconia Notch State Park has it all - The Flume, Basin, Boise Rock, campgrounds, nature walks, paved bake trails and much, much more. You can visit the Basin for free or for an inexpensive fee walk throughout the Flume, both of which are remarkable natural sites created following the glaciers carving their way through the park. If you bring your bike, we encourage you to ride along the scenic and enjoyable bike patch that runs throughout the park from Cannon Mountain to the Flume. If you didn't have room for your bike, you can rent one in one of the surrounding towns. It's worth the adventure
