Ford's Theater is where Lincoln was shot. Today it remains a working play house and together with the house across the street where Lincoln passed away, both sites are museums that pay tribute to the life and death of Abraham Lincoln including his role in the Civil War and his personal family life. Some highlights of the museum are four presidents reciting the Gettysburg Address, stories of the eight conspirators, including Mary Surratt who was the first female executed by the federal government, how John Wilkes Booth was finally captured and killed, and how the Lincoln Memorial was conceived and built. It is evident that without Lincoln's influence, the Potomac could very be the present day border of two countries h. The Fords Theater Museum, as run by the National Park Service, is free and is a major must when visiting DC.
