Crime & Punishment Museum
Crime & Punishment Museum

Another amazing place in DC is the Crime and Punishment Museum. As you venture through the musuem you are taken on a chronolgical journey throughtout the history of crime and punishment from colonial days to the present time. Even with our first and third graders most of the museum was appropriate for them with the exception of a few exhibits that we simply skipped over. The museum has an amazing collection of memorabilia from medieval devices to gangsters to serial killers both from the perspectiive of the criminal minds as well as the law enforcement and punishment or how they met their demise. There are some interesting interactive real life games like driving a police car that they kids and teenagers love as well as being a member of a SWAT team and having to take out a suspect with very realistic gun. Some memorabilia highlights for us was Bonnie and Clyde's bullet ridden car featured in the film and John Wayne Gacy's creapy clown outfit. They also have a CSI experience where you become an investigtor in a crime and get to deal with the forensics and do detective work to solve the case. And the last thing is the America's Most Wanted studio where they actually take calls from the public with tips about unsolved crimes and where you can read about John Walsh and all the cases that were solved becasue of the show. The Crime and Punishment museum has a very extensive collection of crime artifacts and stories and is definitely worth the trip if you are in DC.
