Mashantucket Pequot Museum
Mashantucket Pequot Museum

A tribe divided in the 17th century and almost gone in the mid 20th century, the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center tells the story of these resilient people, from the days when they came across the land bridge during the last Ice Age and settled in north America to the current events of the tribe. The museum is one of the best native museum’s we’ve seen. Their exhibits are dynamic and educational. There is an area where you take a self guided tour through the village as it would have been hundreds of years ago. It is so well done that you feel as if you are immersed in their culture. There are movie theaters showing artfully and well done videos of the history of the Mashantucket Pequot including the war they fought for their freedom (just be aware that the movie has some graphic content that may not be appropriate for children). There is a you observation tower overlooking the entire reservation as well as a scale model of the reservation, which allowed us to appreciate and truly understand the environment. There are plenty of things to do for all ages, so the next time you are in Mystic Country, plan a visit to the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center.
