Maryland Historical Society

The Maryland Historical Society has great exhibits on the people, art and culture of Maryland from years past. They have a nice selection of artifacts from the War of 1812 and they also feature events before and during the Civil War including battles and significant figures such as John Brown, Harriet Tubman and Fredrick Douglas just to name a few. The museum also contains an impressive furniture collection, a very detailed library and different function rooms. Their fascinating hands-on exhibits include a map of Maryland with locations of people and places of interest within the state. Their kid friendly interactive exhibits include a place where youth 10 year of age or older can work as a caulk sealer using ropes to watertight ships, just like the 10 year old kids did in the past, “Nippers room” is where the youngsters can have fun playing with modern toys and learning about the toys of the past on display that influenced the ones of today. They get to match the toys they are used to with the ones from the past.
