David Wills
David Wills

David Wills was a judge in Gettysburg. His house sits at the hub of 9 roads and was Lee’s objective to capture. The house quickly became a safe haven during the battle and then a hospital after. A few months later, Wills was the major force to establish a national cemetery and when the dedication of the cemetery was to happen, Lincoln stayed at the house. The house went through a lot of changes until 2004 when the National Park Service refurbished this building into a museum. The first floor gallery is my favorite because of the 3-D model of the town during the time of the battle. Plus it has a very informal archived video on the aftermath of the war and cemetery. The 2nd floor portrays the Gettysburg address itself which includes an interactive exhibit on the meaning of the address. Also in this room is a unique video on how the battle and speech made life better for all races in the USA. Definitely come and visit the friendly staff of David Wills House Museum.
