Punkin Chunkin
Punkin Chunkin

Halloween is a time for spooky witch decorations on windows and pumpkins strategically placed on front steps. Following Halloween, the witch decorations can be stored away for next season, but these pumpkins no longer seem to hold a meaningful purpose; or at least that's what I thought until I heard about Punkin Chunkin. If you too are intrigued about witnessing the magnificence of a pumpkin being shot from an air cannon nearly a mile in the distance, then the annual Punkin Chunkin World Championship in Delaware is just the thing to take the entire family to for a weekend. The contest is filled with spectacular man made machines, from air cannons to catapults and centrifugals to trebuchets, all competing in their own class to propel a pumpkin the farthest distance through the air. As part of the event, you will find a wide diversity of vendors, ranging from food, novelty items, homemade crafts and kiddies rides. It's like a fair with an explosive kick. People come in droves to the plowed over corn field in Millsboro, Delaware, which led me to conclude that I wasn't the only one fascinated by this truly awesome experience. Once you witness this event, you'll be sure to make it an annual family outing.
