The Strasburg Rail Road for All Ages
The Strasburg Rail Road in is one of our favorite places to visit in Lancaster County. Our little ones especially love when Thomas comes to town. There are many activities and different train cars to ride in - 1st Class, Coach and they even have a dining car. Want to make it an inexpensive day? Bring a picnic lunch and get off at the picnic grove. There are many shaded picnic tables and a playground for the kids. This stop can also take you to the Cherry Crest Farm, but if this is on your agenda for the day, take an earlier train because your can easily spend several hours there (the maze alone will take two plus). At the Strasburg Rail Road, you will get a learning experience about steam railroading, agriculture, Amish culture and PA Dutch heritage. The prices are very reasonable for families of all ages. They have additional activities for kids that require tokens to be purchased separately. The kids (and adults) will love to ride the Cagney Steam Train, a miniature version of the real thing, operate a hand-powered Pump Car, or engineer the pint-sized Cranky Cars. During your trip, come and browse the Thomas™ Toy Store and discover the amazing railroad bookstore and rail fan shop filled with apparel and merchandise.
“A Day Out with Thomas"
The Strasburg Rail Road presents three times a year “A Day Out with Thomas” on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We would strongly recommend that you take off Friday, stay in of our recommended hotels on a Thursday night and get an earlier train on Friday. T
