Bayard House
In a quaint little city under a huge bridge on the Chesapeake Delaware Canal, where you can watch tankers and cruise ships go by, is the Bayard House Restaurant. You will have a great dinner watching the sun set under the bridge. Everyone knows that Maryland is famous for their crabs, but take this fame to a higher level by eating at the Bayard House. For appetizers we were very fond of their Fried Oysters and Crab Dip as well as their Maryland Vegetable Crab Soup, a true masterpiece for which they have won many awards. It is a tomato-based soup with minced vegetables tenderly cooked down and prepared with a mixture of spices then layered with lump crab meat. For the main course, if you like crabs, lobster and a tender filet steak then try their Tournedos Baltimore. This delicious dish is made up of a lobster cake basted in a champagne sauce and a crab cake basted in a Madeira sauce then both are laid atop two filets. This is served with warm fresh bread, a side of broiled vegetables and homemade smashed red potatoes. At last, loosen up those belts because they have two great desserts - the Cream Brule or the hot Kentucky Pie. The Pie comes with ice-cream to complement the hot chocolate cookie taste. When dining at the Bayard House Restaurant, for a more romantic or intimate experience it is definitely worth it to sit upstairs to see the canal and the passing ships or for more of a pub atmosphere sit on the first floor at the Watering hole. Either way the food is excellent, the ambiance is terrific and the service is superb.
